Lube

March 24th, 2010

So ever get really horny?  I mean really horny.  The lighting is perfect, your mate and you are kissing.  They even brushed their teeth for the occasion.  They’re touching you in all of those tingly places.  He’s getting you to that place where you’re just ready to tear off his clothing and mount him.  Only to cringe the moment you ease down?  Nothing I know of, other than a baby crying in the next room, can halt sex in its track faster than a dry vaginal tract.

Most bodies normally produce lubrication for sexual pleasure.  Its Mother Nature’s way of making it easier for the bodies to melt together.  After all if we don’t meld every now and then, how do we continue to procreate?  Sometimes though, during the course of your lifetime, your body may not do such a great job of this; for one reason or another.  Fret not:  men have found the answer.  Personal lubricant.  Or Lube for short.

Now I’m not going into how it all works;  just enough to give you a bit of back round.  This will be an on-going series on some of the lubes out there:  I couldn’t very well try them all in one night.  Nor would it be fair to try and compare them to each other, in just one review.  Each brand is different in some ways, different materials being used, different packaging, and different ways to use them.  So I’m going to review them on just their own merits.  If you want to know more about the ins-and-outs about the types of lubes available.  Such as their drawbacks, and compatibility to things like condoms, toys, and such.

Always the helpful guide :) here’s a quick fact sheet to help you make the right choice:

OIL based

  • use with polyurethane condoms ONLY
  • CANNOT be used with latex toys
  • water beads on contact
  • washes off with water and soap

WATER based

  • use with either polyurethane or latex condoms
  • can add water to get slipperier
  • washes off with water

SILICONE based

  • can be used polyurethane or latex condoms
  • cannot be used with silicone toys
  • does not dilute or wash off with water – so can be used in the shower :)

Colors and scents and flavors are the superficial choices, but what are the differences between oil, water, and silicone based lubes?

Bottom line, for the most versatility, stick to water-based if you plan on using any other toys or condoms and if you want to clean up quickly and easily.

Added bonus: it’s typically the cheapest!

There’s no denying that sex feels better with lubricant as natural sensastions and stimulations from toys are intesified with the added moisture.

Lube this………….

The first times I ever used lube I used K-Y and to say the least I was not impressed. I then made some effort to look for a lube ( 19+ years ago ). At that time there were a few, if I recall they were I-D Astroglide and Wet. I personally liked Wet the best, actually Wet Light because Wet Original had spermicide in it as many of the lubes at the time did yet Wet Light did not. I liked the fact that it was water based ( water and glycerin being the first two ingredients ) and made for easy clean up, I’ve never liked oil based lubes because of the messy clean-up. Being the creature of habit I am I continued using Wet Light for the next 19 years.

Well I finally came out of my shell and tried something new … Still “water based” … but with a better lubricating quality. I now use System Jo H2O. It says it is water based, but the first two ingredients are not water, they are Propyl Paraben and Methyl Paraben ( both are used as preservatives according to Wiki )with Gylcerine and water being listed last. Assuming this it not a “typo” of sort it could explain that silcone type of feel you get from this water based lube. Clean-up is still easy, maybe not as easy as Wet but just the same it is no Oil base lube. For the exrta 10 seconds it takes for clean-up I will choose the quality of this lube hands downs every time!
